Endoscopy
Riverview Endoscopy attempts to maintain a fee structure which supports private insurance, reduced costs and less paperwork for the patient. Therefore, in most instances, patients with private health cover will be eligible for no-gap cover for in-patient stays or day procedures. In practice this means members of most health insurance funds are fully covered for such medical fees. In these circumstances a bill will be sent directly to the health fund. Where funds do not support the no-gap system an invoice is given to the patient on the day of the procedure. The invoice, or receipt if paying on the day, may be submitted for full or partial reimbursement from Medicare and the patient's Private Health Fund. However, in all instances payment remains the ultimate responsibility of the patient.
For patients seen in outpatient consultation there is a small gap between the Medicare reimbursement and the bill which is not covered at present by any Health Fund.
Additionally, patients admitted to hospital are charged a bed stay fee by the hospital. Most Health Funds fully reimburse this fee. However, some do not with a gap which at present is $50.
Patients having biopsies, or other pathology tests, will receive separate
accounts from the pathologist. These are usually fully refunded by Medicare
and the Health Fund.
